Beginners Free Machine Embroidery: Friday January 30th, 10-1pm

This workshop is perfect if you’re completely new to free machine embroidery, or if you’ve tried it before and would like a gentle refresher.

Free machine embroidery is, quite simply, drawing with a sewing machine. We drop the feed dogs and move the fabric freely under the needle, guiding it as the machine stitches. It’s a very free, expressive way of working — and this isn’t about perfect lines. Wobbly stitching is part of the charm.

We’ll begin by getting comfortable with the technique, practising and experimenting so you can build confidence. Once you’re happy with how it feels, I’ll introduce appliqué, a great way to layer fabrics and make the most of scraps.

This season we’ll be making a jug of snowdrops, celebrating the start of the year and the first signs of spring. You’ll go home with a finished textile piece. In the past we’ve made tulips, so this is a fresh design to add to your collection.

We’ll also have free machine embroidery packs for sale in the shop, with fabrics and instructions, if you’d like to carry on exploring the technique at home.

On-site parking is very limited and not suitable for all-day use.

Cancellations

• Workshops are paid for in advance
• 48 hours’ notice minimum for cancellations
• Late cancellations are non-refundable
• You may send someone in your place if needed
